What are some great club memories that you would like to share?
A couple of things stand out for our club. After our second year we were promoted to DIVISION 1 (the old Bardon division in the EORU). In 2013, our men’s team had a perfect 10-0 season and we won the EORU championship vs Brockville. In 2018-2019 we started of our first junior team (U17 Girls) and in 2020 we broke ground and we continue to build our new clubhouse on 28 acres with 4 field pitches.

What is your club’s claim to fame?

  • Our perfect 10-0 season in 2013.
  • Additionally, our Old Boys team went 4 years without losing a game until this last fall when we lost our first game to the  Cobourg Saxons at their fall tournament in October of 2019.
  • Another thing we are very proud of is the fact that our club is predominantly all Lanark County residents from Smiths Falls, Perth and Carleton Place.

What is your favourite team to play against and why?

Men: We have always enjoyed playing Brockville as they are considered probably our biggest rival given the proximity of the two locations. Brockville was also  instrumental in helping us get our club off the ground in 2004 and was the first team we ever played as a legitimate club.

Old Boys: We enjoy playing all the teams in the area. We have such a good friendship off the field and play each other hard on the field.

U18 Girls: Kingston Panthers. We respect the fact that Kingston focuses on the development of both their players and coaches and it shows on the pitch. Our girls lost the opportunity to go to provincials in our very first year due to the hard fought game vs Kingston. The lessons our athletes walked away with after the match will stay with them forever – respect, camaraderie, and sportsmanship. We are also grateful to the Ottawa Ospreys who were gracious enough to join up with us last year to help fill our fixtures.

Senior Women: The senior women have yet to play a game. 2020 was supposed to be their first full season but #COVID-19.

U16 Boys and Girls: Both junior U-16 teams have yet to play a game. See the Senior Women response for the reason ;).

We hear there are great new things happening for the Highlanders. Can you elaborate a little bit?

With the addition to LeeAnn  “Nappy” Napiorkowski to our club, LeeAnn has be instrumental in helping get our women’s program off the ground. We also hope to support a Mixed Abilities Highlanders team to expand on the amazing work she is already doing in the Ottawa area.

For post-game functions and general enjoyment, our sponsor 4 Degrees has released our very own Highlander Lager (now available to the public). This beer is currently their biggest selling Lager – we are so proud to work with 4 Degrees on this amazing marketing venture.

We are also looking forward to the grand opening of our new 1.2 Million dollar, 28 acre clubhouse and pitch just outside Perth. It will have a kitchen, bar, change rooms, wrap around deck with views of all 4 pitches.

Are there any shoutouts or thank yous you’d like to make?

  • The Lanark Highlanders would like to shout out to a few particular people. First off –  to all our sponsors who financially support us without question each and every year and allow us to play this sport we all love so much (4 Degrees Brewery, Flying Canoe Hard Cider, Giant Tiger Perth, Regional Plumbing Carleton Place, UniGlass Perth, RCL Automotive, Jess Don Dunford Ltd., Showcase Stoneworks Carleton Place.
  • All the coaches and executive members who give up their time to develop and grow our club
  • And last but not least we would also like to a say a big thank you to all the people of Lanark County who support us. We pride ourselves on giving back to the people who support us and that starts with our very own community.
