Wanda Malone Receives NCSSA Award

The EORU would like to recognize long-standing member Wanda Malone who recently received the prestigious 2018-2019 Fellows Award from the National Capital Secondary School Athletic Association (NCSSAA). We are all very proud of you and would like to thank you for your service over the years. Thank you, Wanda!

We were able to catch up with Wanda, who also holds roles such as Vice-President of Appointments and Treasurer of the Eastern Ontario Rugby Referee Society (EORRS) and is a Rugby Ontario referee appointer, to ask about some of her thoughts on her award. She had this to say:

“Currently, I organize and schedule the NCSSAA 7s as I am the referee-in-chief for the NCSSAA. I have helped organize the referees for the past two OFSAA championships, as well as sitting on the committee for the past our Ottawa OFSAA championships. My role has changed from player to coach to referee over the years. I just want to continue to grow the game and be the best kind of person I can be for my daughters. As soon as my two girls are old enough, I would like to reintroduce rugby to the upper Ottawa Valley.

This award has humbled me. I do what I do because I love the game and want our athletes to have the best experience possible. I was sure there was a mistake at first, it couldn’t be me they were talking about! But, I couldn’t have done this without the outstanding referees, coaches, players, Rugby Ontario and Rugby Canada personnel that I am blessed to work with. Our EORRS referees are accommodating, knowledgeable and outstanding!”

So are you Wanda. So. Are. You.
